And here's how cheap I am...I buy large sized leggings and white maternity dress shirts at dollar general (I'm only wearing them for a few more months anyways) but for my shower im going to Burlington coat factory, they have really pretty stretchy dresses there and not to expensive.

This will fit me all through my pregnancy and beyond. It is currently my favorite article of clothing/proof that thrifting wins. There is no better feeling than digging for treasure you never knew you were looking for. This dress is my happy place. I also can't help but notice how in ONE MONTH my body has completely changed. These pictures were taken when I was fourteen weeks pregnant. I'm eighteen weeks, now, and my body has seemingly doubled in size.

Beginning in the sixteenth century, styles became more restrictive. Bodices were reinforced with boning, but they were still most often laced. Writers scolded women for wearing these styles during pregnancy, accusing them of putting vanity above the health of their unborn child. But it is possible to rest the bodice or corset on the pregnant belly without constricting it, and this was probably common. Women did not abandon corsets during pregnancy, at least in public. Women of all classes wore corsets during pregnancy, tilted across their stomachs, aprons worn high to conceal the gap at the bodice's front.

The 1930's fashion style was all about a feminine silhouette with a defined high waist. That was a problem for expanding waistlines. Designers now had to find ways to give pregnant women a waist that is also adjustable. It was also important to conceal pregnancy as long as possible. Long capes, flounces, bolero jackets, and big bows that hung down from the neck and shoulders and over the belly were common features that hid fullness well. Small prints such as florals and polka dots also worked well as a camouflage. With these miracle tricks women could stay out in public longer before confinement to the home was expected.

In the early 1980s, Diana Princess Of Wales' two pregnancies influenced maternity styles. Dropped-waist dresses, then in fashion, were well suited to pregnancy and a favorite of Diana's. Dresses dropping straight from the yoke with no waist at all, one of the styles favored in the 1950s and 1960s, were also worn. Long tunics and sweaters over stretchy leggings became a popular casual choice.
