Festival Fashion That Will Get You Photographed

For all the marketing hoopla about festival fashion, you would think that everyone on the planet spends three days at a music spectacle dressed in feathers and head-to-toe fringe. So what is a cool festival look in 2016? Here, our thoughts on what to wear this summer, from Coachella to Lollapalooza (and maybe every weekend in between).

Americana
An American flag print, done right, is the making of an exemplary festival look. This Marc Jacobs skirt with allover fraying can be your concert go-to investment for years to come.

Be a Headliner
There’s always a place for boho dresses and cutoffs at a concert, but if the idea is to look sexy, go for it with attitude. Alexander Wang’s chain-strap crop top and Kenzo’s cutout bodysuit were made for a festival style slide show.

Avoid a Browbeating
Swap that elaborate flower crown of seasons past for a good sun-shielding hat. Lola’s new collection includes this winning raffia hat threaded with grosgrain ribbo.

On Your Bucket List
Often as not, today’s handbags are less about a designer logo and a cost equaling two months’ rent than was once the perception. Creatures of Comfort’s understated new Apple bag is a soft bucket shape that comes in two sizes and nine pretty pastels.

Collaborating with Nature
For a project with the British retailer Jigsaw, the artist Audrey Louise Reynolds used a process she calls rain-printing to achieve a distinctive tie-dye effect. She puts her own natural dyes on a screen, and when it rains, the hydrated pigment drops onto the fabric below. The results are then digitally remastered and printed on the silk satin fabric used in the collection. No two pieces are the same, so no worries about a “who wore it better” moment.

For the V.I.P. Section
The French label Beau Souci, maker of the peace sign metal dress, studded leather pants and sequin tops, and the minimalist Los Angeles shoe label Newbark joined forces on these handmade flats embellished with crystals. Reserve them for when you have the good seats.
