Outfits Our Brides Have Worn

Custom designed lace. Tailored men's wear. A dress altered hours before the wedding: The women featured in our wedding announcements in recent months wore bridal outfits that told many stories. Here, we bring you a selection of photographs from their weddings, with details about where each bought their dress.

Bold Accessories

Mallory Staub in Amsale

For her wedding at the Metropolitan Club in New York, Ms. Staub wanted a dress that would be comfortable and allow movement throughout the evening. She found it in the Libby dress at the Amsale flagship store in New York. The simplicity of the dress allowed her to be bold with her accessories, which included an emerald green mink boa.

A Light Ball Gown

Yamicia Connor in Pnina Tornai

This was the first wedding dress Ms. Connor tried on at Kleinfeld Bridal in New York. “Immediately, everyone with me fell in love with it,” Ms. Connor said. To be certain, she spent two more days shopping for dresses, but didn’t find anything that compared with its balanced sparkle and light feel. She added a headpiece, also from Kleinfeld Bridal, by Pnina Tornai.

No Sheer, Please

Ariel Moses in Pnina Tornai

Ms. Moses imagined herself in a sleek-fitting, simple wedding gown. She described her style as “not traditionally feminine.” So she was surprised, while at Kleinfeld, when she fell for this dress with layers of Chantilly lace and a corset back tied with a ribbon. However, the sheer midsection felt a bit too racy, so she had it covered with opaque white material. In the end, she said: “The dress offered a modern, chic yet ethereal look that looked simple from afar. Up close you could see the true artistry.”

Matching Bows

Andrea Christie and Nan Min in Jussara Lee

Dr. Christie (left) and Dr. Min wanted matching wedding attire that was versatile enough to let them move to the Argentine tango, their first dance. They chose Jussara Lee in New York for custom designs. Dr. Min chose a princess-style dress, with hidden deep pockets. Dr. Christie wanted an all-white tuxedo, and ended up with an off-white wool crepe suit with a bow tie to match the bow in Dr. Min’s dress.

 Custom Lace

Giuliana Galant in Pronovias

Ms. Galant describes her wedding dress as “truly a labor of love.” For her wedding in January, she knew she wanted a dress with long sleeves, but could not find one at Pronovias that felt right. So she remade a Pronovias design, adding sleeves and custom lace down the back, arms and chest. “Leading up to the wedding I had a fitting every weekend where I was covered in dozens of pins while the seamstress and I decided where pieces of lace should lie,” she said. She was delighted with the result: a sophisticated and classic look that was custom-made.

Love at First Sight

Danielle Mazandi in Oscar de la Renta

After going to many salons and trying on many wedding dresses, Ms. Mazandi was dispirited. She remembered an Oscar de la Renta dress that she had seen online and fallen in love with six months before, when she got engaged. But the dress was not available at any of the New York bridal salons that carried the designer. In the end, Jill Northrup, a bridal consultant at Saks Fifth Avenue, arranged for her to try on the store’s sample dress. “It was feminine and elegant and also hit the right balance between being memorable without being ostentatious,” the bride said.

A Timeless Bride

Alexandra Mizels in Jenny Lee Bridal

“I’d pictured this day ever since I was little,” Ms. Mizels said. But she had always imagined an overwhelming happiness at just being married, rather than how she actually looked and felt in her gown. The first dress she tried on at Boca Raton Bridal in Boca Raton, Fla., gave her a sense of joy. It had an A-line cut and a sweetheart neckline, was made of organza and gave her the feeling of being a “beautiful, timeless bride.”
Tradition and a Tux

Valdora Estridge in Oleg Cassini and Isabel Olson in Express

As a nod to whimsy and updated tradition, Ms. Estridge accessorized her strapless wedding dress from David’s Bridal with a soft pink sash adorned with roses from Vera Wang and a birdcage veil from Lily Bella. Never having been one for wearing a dress, her wife decided on a midnight blue tux jacket, tailored to her trim figure. She wore a Saint Harridan shirt and black pants and accessorized with an eggplant pocket square from Lanvin Paris.

Black Dress Optional

Gwen Whiting in Dolce & Gabbana

For Ms. Whiting, a black wedding dress made perfect sense. “A white bridal thing never seemed right for me, and this outfit just suited me and the event perfectly,” she said. She spotted this Dolce & Gabbana “Sicilian funeral dress,” as she calls it, during a trip to Italy and decided it would be perfect for her City Hall ceremony. She carried out the trend by wearing a black Oscar de la Renta gown to the party at the National Arts Club in Gramercy Park.
